Applications of Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE)

The extraction of polysaccharides utilizing SFE is a research area of great interest. One of the main focuses of the current research is to optimize the SFE parameters to improve the efficiency and purity of polysaccharides. The impact of the type of supercritical fluids (SCFs) used on extraction efficiency and product quality is currently being investigated. In addition, researchers are studying the selectivity of SCFs for specific types of polysaccharides. Different SCFs have varying solubilities or affinities for various polysaccharides, thus allowing target compounds can be selectively extracted. This selectivity can be further improved by changing the process conditions to favor the extraction procedure. In a word, polysaccharide extraction using SFE techniques is progressing.
