Structure of Grifolan

Grifola frondosa, also known as maitake in Japan, contains a variety of nutrients in its fruiting body, such as amino acids and polysaccharides. Grifolan is a kind of beta-glucan extracted from Grifola frondosa, with a structure containing beta-(1,6)-linked glucan with beta-(1,3)-branches or beta-(1,3)-linked glucan branched with beta-(1,6)-glucosides.

Biofunctions of Grifolan

• Immunomodulatory effect: By binding with receptors on immune cells such as macrophages and neutrophils, grifolan can enhance phagocytosis and degranulation, and stimulate the synthesis and release of cytokines, thus regulating both the specific and non-specific immunity of the body.
• Anti-tumor effect: Grifolan can not only indirectly kill cancer cells by enhancing the immune system, but also directly induce tumor cell apoptosis, which can be used as an adjunct to chemotherapies.
• Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect: Grifolan can effectively inhibit the action of cyclooxygenase and has a certain scavenging effect on free radicals.
• Blood glucose level regulation effect: Grifolan can improve peripheral insulin resistance and increase the host's sensitivity to insulin.
• Antiviral effect: Grifolan has been shown to inhibit hepatitis virus, herpes simple virus, influenza virus, etc.
