Structure of Lentinan

Lentinan is a kind of beta-glucan isolated from the fruiting body of the fungus mushroom L. edodes. The main structure of beta-glucan chains in lentinan contains a beta-(1,3)-glucose backbone with two (1,6)-beta-glucose branches of each five glucose units.

Pharmaceutical Effects of Lentinan

• Immunomodulatory effect: Lentinan has been proven as a typical non-specific immune stimulant, which can enhance the T cell response, NK cell activity and phagocytosis, and promote the production of interleukin.
• Anti-tumor effect: The mechanism of anti-tumor action can be summarized as enhancing the immune function of the body, inducing or promoting the apoptosis of tumor cells, and blocking the cell cycle.
• Anti-infection effect: Lentinan blocks the binding of the pathogen to the polysaccharides on the surface of normal cells, thus blocking its infection route.
