What Is Glucan?
Glucan is a polysaccharide with a high molecular weight, consisting of D-glucopyranose monomers, which are connected by glycosidic bonds formed between the isomeric carbon atom of one monomer and the carbonyl group of the other monomer. According to the type of glycosidic bonds, glucans can be divided into alpha and beta forms.

Where Does Glucan Exist?
Alpha-glucan is common in our daily life, and the starch contained in daily foods such as rice and wheat is composed of alpha-glucan. The glycosidic bond of alpha-glucan is mostly alpha-1,4 from. The main form of beta-glucan is dietary fiber, which is widely found in highland barley and oats. It also exists in large quantities in fungi like Ganoderma lucidum and matsutake. beta-1,3/1,6 forms of glucan are mostly in yeast and mushroom, while beta-1,3/1,4 forms are usually in oats and barley.
