The Use of Sorbitol

Sorbitol, also known as rosy alcohol, the chemical formula is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-hexanol. As an important resource, sorbitol exists widely in nature, especially in pears and peaches. In addition, sorbitol is also a widely used fine chemical. In medicine, it is the main raw material for the synthesis of vitamin C. In the food industry, sorbitol is used as a tissue modifier for flour to prevent starch aging. In leather, it can fatliquoring leather to improve the appearance and feel of leather. At the same time, sorbitol can also be used in the manufacture of toothpaste, paper, and fiber. With the application of sorbitol more and more widely, the preparation method of sorbitol has been paid more and more attention. Therefore, it is necessary to study a more comprehensive manufacturing method for sorbitol.

Our Services

The production technology of sorbitol is mainly divided into catalytic hydrogenation, electrolytic reduction, and Biological Fermentation. At CD BioGlyco, we have studied all these methods, and the specific production methods are as follows.

  • Catalytic hydrogenation
  • This method is the most commonly used method for the preparation of sorbitol. Our synthesis steps are as follows:

    • Send the glucose aqueous solution to the hydrogenation kettle
    • Add the catalyst for the hydrogenation reaction
    • Eparated and purified

In this method, the selection of catalyst is the key, and CD BioGlyco provides a kind of environmentally friendly metal catalyst to catalyze the reaction.

  • Electrolytic reduction method
  • The main principle of this method is to reduce monosaccharides to sorbitol on the cathode electrode. In this process, we will select specific cathode and diaphragm materials and screen the electrolysis time and the pH value of the electrolyte. By controlling the reaction conditions, the yield of sorbitol is as high as 90%.

  • Biological fermentation
  • This method uses glucose, fructose-specific oxidoreductase, sucrase, and zymomonas mobilis to reduce glucose, fructose, or sucrose to gluconolactone and sorbitol. This method has high production efficiency (the yield is close to 100%) which is an excellent method for producing sorbitol.
