    • Alkaline Extraction: Be similar to the acidic extraction except for adjusting pH with alkali.
    • Enzymatic Extraction: Be similar to the acidic extraction except for adjusting the supernatant at pH 7 and treating it with α-amylase and protease enzyme.
  • Optimized methodologies
    • Ammonium sulfate fractional precipitation: After dissolved in water, oats are precipitated in an ammonium sulfate solution. The purity of the product can be above 98%.
    • Ethanol and enzyme-hot water two-step process: The molecular integrity and high viscosity of beta-glucan can be maintained effectively by the method.
  • Advanced technologies
    • Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction: The method promotes the release of geta-glucan mainly by mechanical effect and cavitation of ultrasonic wave. It has the advantages of high polysaccharide yield and fast extraction speed.
    • Subcritical-water extraction: It is a new single-step process for beta-glucan extraction under high temperatures and high pressure. The extraction time will be greatly shortened and the yield will be more than triple.
  • Combined methodologies
    • Isoelectric precipitation combined with ethanol precipitation: The method has the advantages of simple operation, and is easily applied in industrial production.
    • Ethanol precipitation combined with polyamide column chromatography: The separation effect is excellent, and it is suitable for products in small amounts but high purity.
