Dry-Milling Process for Starch Manufacture

Functions of Dry Milling

Dry-milling is the preferred method when a dry output is required or when post-grinding drying proves expensive. This process involves grinding the grain and carefully following a series of steps. Milling is a critical stage, seeking to achieve optimal material extraction and endosperm grinding while minimizing husk damage. It employs roller, disk, or hammer mills based on specific requirements. Roller mills are suitable for wort separation with a lauter tun, while hammer (or disk) mills are ideal for mash filtration. Selecting the appropriate milling approach ensures efficient processing and enhances the final product's quality. Consequently, dry milling offers an efficient and cost-effective solution for specific applications, making it a preferred choice in various industries.

Dry-Milling Process for Starch Manufacture Service at CD BioGlyco

CD BioGlyco provides the dry-milling process service for starch production, based on the dry-milling we have the ability to produce several native starches. There are five main steps in the dry milling process:

  • Grinding: The first step is to grind the raw materials, such as grains or tubers, to break them down into smaller particles. This grinding process can be accomplished using roller, disk, or hammer mills, depending on the specific application.
  • Separation: After grinding, the material is subjected to a series of steps to separate the starch from other components.
  • Endosperm Grinding: The endosperm, which contains the starch, is carefully ground to achieve optimal material extraction and starch grinding while minimizing damage to the husk.
  • Drying Milling: Unlike wet milling, the dry milling process does not involve excessive water usage.
  • Product Formation: The dry-milled starch can be processed into a variety of products.

Besides the dry-milling process, CD BioGlyco also provides Wet-milling Starch Manufacturing Services such as Conventional Wet-Milling Service and Alkali Wet-Milling Service. We also provide Native Starch Manufacturing Services for our clients according to their needs.
