Bacterial Fermentation Process for the Production of Glycolipids

Glycolipids are lipid compounds containing sugar-based ligands, which are widely found in various organisms. It is a class of non-toxic, odorless, easily biodegradable biosurfactants, which are widely used in food, chemical, agriculture, and other fields. Currently, available glycolipid surfactants are mainly alginate glycolipids, rhamnolipid (RL)s, acacia glycolipids, mannose erythritol lipids, etc., of which RLs are the most widely studied.

Glycolipid production is mainly based on fermentation, of which bacterial fermentation can manufacture RL. RL is a kind of anionic biosurfactant, which is mainly generated through the fermentation of pseudomonas. RLs occur naturally in water, soil, and plants. They can be used as an active ingredient in body lotions and detergents, as well as in oil extraction, environmental remediation, agriculture, etc. Currently, Pseudomonas is used to produce RLs using different carbon sources.

    RL is a biosurfactant with the longest research time and the most mature application technology. Compared with traditional chemical surfactants, RLs have many advantages, such as salt resistance, temperature resistance, easy degradation, and so on. RLs are mainly produced through liquid fermentation, the overall fermentation process is green and pollution-free. The purity and quality of the product are extremely high. We provide different specifications of RLs that can be used in food and daily chemicals.
