Applications of Citric Acidified Starch

With the development of human society, environment-friendly resin adhesive has become the goal of human beings. As an environment-friendly natural polymer compound, starch has become one of the earliest adhesives used by human beings. In modern industry, a natural starch adhesive cannot compete with synthetic polymer resin adhesive because of its low bonding strength and poor water resistance, so its use is very limited. To expand the application of starch in industry, it is of great practical significance to modify starch molecules Physically or Chemically according to the structure and physicochemical property of starch. Citric acid is a tricarboxylic acid, which can form anhydride under heating and then esterify with hydroxyl groups on starch to form starch citrate ester. With the progress of the reaction, citric acid and starch can form a cross-linking state, thus improving the water resistance of starch.

Our Technologies

At CD BioGlyco, we not only provide research on the preparation of citric acidified starch but also provide a comprehensive analysis of the properties and uses of citric acidified starch.

  • Preparation of lemon acidified starch
  • When citric acid is heated, intramolecular dehydration forms anhydride, and citric anhydride is esterified with starch. Further heating, intramolecular dehydration continues, and the resulting anhydride further reacts with starch to form citrate diester starch. According to this principle, CD BioGlyco designs and improves the scheme of synthesizing citrate-derived starch. In particular, we produce up to 10,000 tons of citric acidified starch each year.

  • Citric acid starch detection and analysis service
  • The degree of citric acid acidification will affect the properties of starch, so it is necessary to determine the degree of substitution of citric acid starch. At CD BioGlyco, we use acid-base titration to determine the degree of substitution. In addition, for the structural analysis of the products, we will provide infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and X-single crystal diffraction.
